Wat Thepthidaram Worawihan is divided into two sections, east, and west with a door connecting each building. The principal Buddha image, found in the west building is carved from pure white stone and is known as the White Buddha. The East building, known as Bhikkhuni Viharn features an image of the Buddha’s stepmother and very rare images of 52 female Bhikkunis surrounding an image of Mahapajapati Gotami.

History

The wall murals of a phoenix represent the empowerment of women. In 1977 the temple was declared as a national monument due to the uniqueness and has recently undergone extensive restoration. Wat Thepthidaram Worawihan is located next to Wat Ratchanatdaram on Maha Chai road. It was built in 1836 and completed in 1839 during the reign of King Rama III as a tribute to his eldest daughter and is also known as the Temple of the Heavenly Daughter. The architectural design displays Thai-Chinese influences with Chinese porcelain adorning the gables.
