Taxis to Don Mueang can be hailed on the street or arranged by your hotel. There is no 50-baht surcharge added to the fare but the passenger must pay any tollway fares. Make sure the taxi driver turns the meter on. The rough cost of a taxi from central Bangkok is normally around 200 – 300 baht including tollway.
The Limobus has 2 routes. Khaosan Road to Don Mueang and Lumpini Park to Don Mueang. The buses travel via the expressway. The fare is 150 baht. Buses leave to the airport at 04.00 and 05.00 am and then every hour from 10.30 until 20.30. The bus departs Khaosan from Chakrabongse Road in front of Starbucks. The bus departs Lumpini from near the King Rama monument and picks up at BTS Ploenchit station before turning on to the tollway. Free WIFI on the bus.
The Airport Bus has 4 routes. Don Mueang to Morchit BTS station (A1), Don Mueang to Victory Monument (A2), Don Mueang to Lumphini Park (A3), and Don Mueang to Khao San Road (A4). Travel is direct via the tollway and is quick. The fare is 30 baht on the A1, A2 and 50 baht on the A3 and A4. Departures are from gate 6 at Terminal 1 and from gate 12 at Terminal 2. Buses leave every 30 minutes. Bus A1 07.30 – 24.00, Bus A2 08.00 – 22.00. Bus A3, A4 07.00-23.00. Buy your ticket on the bus.
A1 Don Mueang – Expressway – Mochit (BTS) – Morchit 2 (Bus Station).
A2 Don Mueang – Expressway – Mochit (BTS) – Saphan Kwai – Ari – Sanam Pao – Victory Monument.
A3 Don Mueang – Expressway – Din Daeng – Pratunam – Ratchaprasong – Ratchdamri – Lumphini Park.
A4 Don Mueang – Expressway – Chinatown – Lan Luang – Phan Fa – Democracy Monument – Wat Bowonniwet – Khao San Road – Sanam Luang.
There are hourly departures from Khaosan Road. Bookings can be made at your guest house or at travel agents. They will usually pick you up at your guest house. Tickets are around 150 baht. Book in advance to make sure of a seat. The minibus does not pick up at the airport.
City buses can be caught from the destinations below. They stop on Vibhavadhi road opposite the airport.

You can catch a train to Don Mueang station from Hualamphong Station. This is only useful if you are staying in the Hualamphong or Chinatown districts. This is not recommended as the service is slow, infrequent and unreliable.
If you have an early flight, you might want to consider staying near or at the airport. The nearest and best hotel is the Amari Airport Hotel which is connected to the airport terminal by a walkway. Rooms cost around 2000 baht per night. There are also other hotels and hostels in the area.
