Thiptara Thai Restaurant

Thiptara means ?water from heaven? in Thai. The Thiptara restaurant is an outdoor restaurant surrounded by Banyan trees in a tropical garden that leads to a riverside terrace. The dining tables are sheltered under traditional Thai wooden Salas. At the riverside is a terrace with candlelit tables feet from the river. The cuisine is classic authentic Thai with a contemporary infusion. Menu highlights are Yum Som O, a delicious blend of grapefruit, shrimp, coconut, peanut & shallots, and Chu Chee Lobster, a red curry with grilled lobster. If you desire a romantic dinner under the stars with incredible food, Thiptara is a fine choice. Thiptara is open from 18.00-22.30. Make a reservation in advance if you want a specific table. The dress code is smart, casual.

Peninsula Bangkok River View Cafe & Restaurant

Another lovely dining spot is the alfresco River View Terrace Restaurant. There is an International buffet along with an a la carte menu offering both Thai & western food. There is shaded seating on the terrace or air-conditioned interior dining. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner from 06.00-22.30. Smart casual dress.

Peninsula Bangkok Bars

The Peninsula Bangkok has three bars, a riverside bar, a lounge bar & a pool bar. The Riverside Bar is on a terrace next to the river, enjoying cool river breezes and is a great place to relax in the evenings while watching the brightly lit river cruisers pass by.

Inside the hotel on the lobby level is The Bar, a lounge with comfortable sofas & live piano music. The menu is extensive with a long list of cocktails, wine, rare spirits & beers. The Bar is open from 17.00-24.00. A snack menu is available until 22.45. The dress code for both bars is smart casual.

In the pool area is the Peninsula Pool Bar with service around the pool area or in the shady private Salas. There is an International snack menu with burgers, salads, sandwiches & more. There is a buy one get one happy hour on some drinks between 17.00-19.00. The pool bar is open from 06.00-21.00 & there is no dress code.

Peninsula Sundown Cocktail Cruise

The Peninsula Bangkok down Cocktail Cruise departs from the hotel pier on Friday, Saturday & Sunday at 18.00. The one hour experience on the Peninsula Bangkok boat takes you up the river to witness the sun setting behind Wat Arun, the temple of dawn. Drinks & Canapes are served onboard. The price is 1650 baht + tax & vat per person.

The Peninsula Bangkok has its own mini-fleet of beautifully restored rice barges. Easy to spot with their distinctive green roofs the boats provide services from the hotel pier to & from the following destinations.

  • Peninsula Pier (opposite the hotel) & Sathorn Pier ? connects with BTS/Chao Phraya Express Boat ? from 06.00 until midnight
  • Asiatique ? take the boat to Sathorn Pier & change to the free Asiatique Shuttle Boat

How to get to the Peninsula Bangkok

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) ? If you are staying at the Peninsula, we recommend you take a private transfer from the airport. There are three classes to choose from. Click on the link for more information & booking.

Local Transport

Taxi ? The hotel can arrange a taxi for you or you can hail one on the street. Beware of taxis that hang around on the street near the hotel. These taxis do not use the meter, overcharge & will try to take you to fake gem shops & worse. Never ask a taxi driver for recommendations, they will only take you to places that pay them a commission.

Tuk-Tuk ? If you would like to use a tuk-tuk, walk up to Charoen Nakhon Road & hail a passing one. The same as for taxis, avoid ones that park & hang around near the hotel for the same reasons as taxis above.

BTS Skytrain ? Saphan Taksin Station is a 7-minute journey on the hotel shuttle boat. The BTS Skytrain is one of the most convenient ways to get around Bangkok.

Hotel Shuttle Boat ? There is a free shuttle boat from Peninsula Pier (next to Shangri-la hotel) & Sathorn Pier (next to BTS Saphan Taksin Pier). The shuttle boat from the hotel also operates a free service to Iconsiam.

Chao Phraya Express & Tourist Boats ? Both the Express (Orange Flag) & Tourist (Blue Flag) call at Sathorn Pier, across the river from the hotel.
