The central location & easy access to public transport make it a convenient base to explore the city. Siam Stadium Hostel is one of the best hostels in Bangkok. The hostel is super clean and ultra-modern with spacious rooms & new wooden beds. Its located on the edge of the arty student Chula Town district, a 5-minute walk from the malls. The hostel has a sports theme due to it?s proximity to the National Stadium sports center. Its interior decor features murals that depict various sports that are popular in Thailand. The immediate area around the hostel is home to a cluster of sporting goods stores that sell everything from football kits to mountain bikes. Everything is of a high standard that you would associate with a quality hotel rather than a hostel. As well as easy access to public transportation and shopping, the staff is friendly, helpful with good English skills. Siam Stadium is everything a modern hostel should be. ??

Best Hostels in Thonburi Bangkok

Thonburi is the ?other? side of the Chao Phraya River, less touristed & built around a series of waterways that flow into the River. We define Thonburi as being the riverside area between Phra Pinklao Bridge (Khaosan) & Taksin Bridge (Saphan Taksin). Thonburi is a good choice of location if you want somewhere quieter in a more ?Thai? neighborhood. The selection of hostels is limited but there are a few goodies. Our favorite, Arun Old Town is below.

?

Arun Old Town Hostel?

One of the best hostels in Thonburi is Arun Old Town. The rooms & common areas are spacious & comfy but the highlight is the split-level rooftop garden. There are great views of the surrounding area including Wat Arun. Arun Old Town has a fantastic location just meters from MRT Itsaraphap Station, one-stop from Wat Pho, 2 stops from Chinatown. Wat Arun is a 10-minute walk away & there are several other interesting old temples in the area. There is not much nightlife nearby but a short taxi ride to Wang Lang reveals some cool riverside & rooftop bars. Uniquely, Arun Old Town has daily rooftop yoga sessions.

Best Party Hostels Bangkok

Party hostels attract a younger crowd of backpackers, generally, the 18-30 age group. Party hostels are social places, if you want to meet & make friends with people your own age, and join group activities, then party hostels may be what you are looking for. The main theme is drinking, drinking games, pub crawls, pool parties & group activities. The best party hostels in Bangkok are Mad Monkey, Slumber Party & Bodega. Note that some party hostels enforce an upper age limit of 35 years old. The downside of party hostels can be noisy guests, the odd pile of puke on the floor, & people having sex in the bunk above or below you.

?

Mad Monkey Hostel Bangkok

Mad Monkey Hostel is one of the best party hostels in Bangkok. The vibe is pure fun providing one of the best social scenes for backpackers in Khaosan.? Mad Monkey is not a downmarket party hostel, the facilities, rooms & beds are good. The highlights are the outdoor swimming pool & the bar which does great breakfasts, a good happy hour & daily food and drink specials. Mad Monkey?s location is great, minutes from Khao San Road & backing on to Khlong Banglamphu. It?s not the cheapest hostel in town but definitely value for money. This hostel is popular, so book ahead if you want a bed.

Bangkok Hostels FAQ

Bangkok Hostels FAQ

What are hostels in Bangkok like?

The best hostels in Bangkok are excellent. They are mostly newly built, ultra-modern with superb facilities & cool design.

How old do I have to be to stay in a Bangkok hostel?

The minimum age is usually 18 years old for solo travelers. Some hostels are family-friendly allowing children to stay as family members. There is no upper age limit except in some “party” hostels who only accept bookings from people under 35.

Do Bangkok hostels have female-only dorms?

Yes, almost all hostels offer a female-only dorm option.

Do hostels in Bangkok have private rooms?

Yes. Most hostels in Thailand offer twin, double or group rooms with or without a private bathroom.

How much are hostels in Bangkok?

The cheapest dorm bed in a hostel is 50 baht a night. The average price is 200-300 baht. More expensive ones can be up to 500 baht.

How do you book a hostel in Bangkok?

You can book hostels online in advance or you can walk-in.

What is the cheapest Hostel booking site?

We have found that Agoda consistently has the best rates for hostels. We like that Agoda has pay now, pay later, or pay at the hostel options, free cancellation & date change. They also price match so you won’t get the bed cheaper elsewhere.

Is it cheaper to book online or walk-in?

It is nearly always cheaper to book online. Online booking agents book in bulk, so get discounted rates. I have found that it is on average 100 baht cheaper to book online in advance.

Can I get the online price if I walk-in?

No. They will tell you to book online to get a lower price. This will delay your check-in as it can take a few hours for the agent to confirm your booking with the hostel even if you get instant confirmation.

Should I try to bargain the price?

No. Hostels are often family businesses that work on slim margins. It is disrespectful to do this. If you want to book for an extended stay (7 days+), and pay all in advance, it would then be acceptable to negotiate a deal.

Is it better to go with the flow or book in advance?

If you want to guarantee a bed always book in advance. You don’t need to pay in advance with certain online agents as you can choose to pay later or at the hostel. Popular hostels usually sell out in advance or raise prices the nearer they get to filling the hostel. Always book with an online agent who allows free cancellation before a certain date.

What time can you check-in?

Check-in time is usually 14.00. Some hostels may let you check-in early if your bed is already free. Some hostels have 24-hour check-in. Most do not. Check when you book.

Do you need a printed voucher to check-in?

Not usually. You just need to give your name & show your passport. You should print a confirmation for your first night’s accommodation in Thailand as immigration may ask to see it at the airport.

What time is check-out?

Check-out time is usually 12.00 Midday. Some hostels have an 11.00 check-out time. Always check when you arrive. If you wish to check out before reception opens, don’t forget to get your deposit back the evening before.

Do Bangkok hostels charge a deposit?

Some do, some don’t. This is not usually stated when you book. A hostel deposit can be from 100-400 baht. The deposit will be returned to you when you check out. If you are leaving in the morning before the reception opens, ask for your deposit to be returned the previous evening.

Can you leave luggage in hostels?

Most hostels allow you to leave your luggage on the day of arrival or departure for free. They sometimes offer longer-term luggage storage for a daily fee.

Are hostels in Bangkok safe?

Yes. Always use the hostel lockers for your valuable items.

Do Bangkok hostels have a curfew?

No. They all have 24-hour access, they either have key, card, or code entry.

Do Bangkok hostels have rules?

Yes. The following are not allowed.

  • Smoking
  • Drugs
  • Visitors in your room
  • food in the room
  • noise at night
  • outdoor shoes in the room or past the reception area.

Can hostels in Thailand keep your passport?

Hostels in Thailand can not keep your passport. They make a copy of your photo page and visa page. You can not check-in without a passport. You may have the option of leaving your passport in a hotel safe box if you so wish.

Do hostels in Bangkok have towels & toiletries?

All hostels have towels available, either free or for a small hire fee. Shower gel & shampoo are usually available from wall dispensers in the shower.

Is breakfast included?

You need to check when booking. Most hostels have a basic free breakfast of coffee, tea & toast/jam/butter. Better hostels have cornflakes, fruit & even eggs.

Do Bangkok hostels have free WIFI?

Yes. I have yet to visit a hostel that does not have free WIFI. Some hostels also have free shared desktop computers.
