Our favorite, Arun Old Town is below.

How do you book a hostel in Bangkok?
You can book hostels online in advance or you can walk-in.
What is the cheapest Hostel booking site?
We have found that Agoda consistently has the best rates for hostels. We like that Agoda has pay now, pay later, or pay at the hostel options, free cancellation & date change. They also price match so you won’t get the bed cheaper elsewhere.
Is it cheaper to book online or walk-in?
It is nearly always cheaper to book online. Online booking agents book in bulk, so get discounted rates. I have found that it is on average 100 baht cheaper to book online in advance.
Can I get the online price if I walk-in?
No. They will tell you to book online to get a lower price. This will delay your check-in as it can take a few hours for the agent to confirm your booking with the hostel even if you get instant confirmation.
Should I try to bargain the price?
No. Hostels are often family businesses that work on slim margins. It is disrespectful to do this. If you want to book for an extended stay (7 days+), and pay all in advance, it would then be acceptable to negotiate a deal.
Is it better to go with the flow or book in advance?
If you want to guarantee a bed always book in advance. You don’t need to pay in advance with certain online agents as you can choose to pay later or at the hostel. Popular hostels usually sell out in advance or raise prices the nearer they get to filling the hostel. Always book with an online agent who allows free cancellation before a certain date.
What time can you check-in?
Check-in time is usually 14.00. Some hostels may let you check-in early if your bed is already free. Some hostels have 24-hour check-in. Most do not. Check when you book.
Do you need a printed voucher to check-in?
Not usually. You just need to give your name & show your passport. You should print a confirmation for your first night’s accommodation in Thailand as immigration may ask to see it at the airport.
What time is check-out?
Check-out time is usually 12.00 Midday. Some hostels have an 11.00 check-out time. Always check when you arrive. If you wish to check out before reception opens, don’t forget to get your deposit back the evening before.
Do Bangkok hostels charge a deposit?
Some do, some don’t. This is not usually stated when you book. A hostel deposit can be from 100-500 baht. The deposit will be returned to you when you check out. If you are leaving in the morning before the reception opens, ask for your deposit to be returned the previous evening.
Can you leave luggage in hostels?
Most hostels allow you to leave your luggage on the day of arrival or departure for free. They sometimes offer longer-term luggage storage for a daily fee.
Are hostels in Bangkok safe?

Do Bangkok hostels have a curfew?

Can hostels in Thailand keep your passport?
Hostels in Thailand can not keep your passport. They make a copy of your photo page and visa page. You can not check-in without a passport. You may have the option of leaving your passport in a hotel safe box if you so wish.
Do hostels in Bangkok have towels & toiletries?
All hostels have towels available, either free or for a small hire fee. Shower gel & shampoo are usually available from wall dispensers in the shower.
